Completely rebound, this modern facsimile reprint of the 1560 "Breeches Bible is quite a treasure. It is called a "Breeches Bible" because in Genesis, after the tree of life had been partaken of, Adam and Eve took fig leaves and sewn themselves 'breeches' instead of the traditional 'loincloths' as in other translations.
The calf cover is hand dyed, hand polished and of course hand tooled. The tooling pattern was common from 1660's to the 1730's. The endsheets are made of hand marbled. Kept closed with a brass book clasp, this will make a beautiful edition to anyone wanting a solid biblical representation. A Beautiful gift to a Biblical Scholar or Historic Church.
