Referred to as "Pocket Ink" is because powder to be made into ink could be carried in the pocket mess free. In larger cities, Ink Vendors roamed streets calling out to sell ink where one could come to the street with your own ink bottle to be filled. However, travelers or people in less populated areas, may not have this luxury. So, powdered ink was a way to transport ink without the mess.

Each packet contains enough powder to make up to 9 ounces of ink. Perfect for several smaller bottles used in traveling.
