Dr. John Aitken, M.D., set forth this proposal of a way to make a single barreled fire-arm shoot twice between loading charges. It is based on the notion that two charges could be rammed into a single barrel with a sufficient wadding to allow the anterior charge to be set off without exploding the posterior charge. Interesting proposal to read that includes four fold-out illustrations.
