It is a popular belief that the tale of the killing of a French Officer told in this Journal was the 'spark' that started the flame to the French & Indian War. This is a printed copy of Washington's own journal from his mission to deliver a letter from Lt. Gov. Dinwiddie to the Commandant of the French Forces on the Ohio. It also includes a fold-out map of this region.
This particular issue was a verbatim reprinting in London of the original printed in Williamsburg only months earlier. However it is still an important insight to the military and political happenings of the 1750's.
